Murali Thrigulla received his Master’s in Fine Arts from the University of Hyderabad in 2003. He was selected as an artist to be exhibited at Art Revolution Taipei in 2019 and 2018, and was also a part of A.R.T Taipei in 2017. His solo shows include ‘Portraits of Automobiles’ at the Indian Habitat Centre in 2020 and another mounted at Art Projects, New Delhi in 2018. He has been a part of several group shows such as ‘Lonely Planet: Exhibition of Paintings, Drawings, Installations, Sculptures, Photography’ curated by Sayam Bharath Yadav at Chinmayee State Art Gallery, Telangana, and ‘Save The Tiger’ curated by Kalpana Shah and Fawad Tamkanat at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai.
Thrigulla’s works largely feature automobiles in realistic rendering, symbolic of the importance and implications of automobiles in the modern day. He has considered automobiles to be a symbol of freedom since his teenage years, having their own place and importance in a man’s life, and thus had a keen interest in the same. He asserts his ideas by portraying the automobile devoid of any particular background, left to speak for itself with details such as scratches and aberrations, similar to capturing a character in a portrait.
The artist currently lives and works in Hyderabad.
